A whole range of improvements to community travel across South Gloucestershire will take place over the coming months.

£800,000 of funding, the largest ever single investment for this field, was given to South Gloucestershire Council on Friday, November 30 after a meeting of the West of England Joint Committee.

This will now prompt an almost immediate revamp of the services provided by Kingswood Community Transport, Green Community Travel in Yate and Four Towns and Vale Link Transport in Thornbury.

Amongst these improvements are new Euro 6 engined-vehicles that would replace the oldest vehicles in the existing fleets.

This will help to reduce harmful emissions, lower fuel consumption and also reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

Chair of Green Community Travel, and South Glos Cllr Marian Gilpin said: “We are truly grateful to receive this funding as it is otherwise difficult to assemble enough money to be able to replace our vehicles and continue to perform these valuable services to the community.”
