A number of primary schools from South Gloucestershire celebrated the start of the festive season by being involved in a huge production of the nativity in Bristol.

On Thursday last week, around 950 schoolchildren, teachers and a real baby all came together at Clifton Cathedral to perform the special show.

There were students representing Abbotswood Primary and North Road Primary School in Yate and Old Sodbury CE Primary School.

Students also came together from Crossways Junior and Gillingstool Primary in Thornbury, with Marshfield CE, Lyde Green Primary, The Manor CE and Wick CE also taking part.

Those in attendance performed a variety of traditional carols and also some modern songs.

Vice Chair of South Gloucestershire Council Cllr Brian Allinson was in attendance at the event in place of Cllr Rachael Hunt, and he said: “The annual carol service is always a highlight of the year as it brings together so many children from South Gloucestershire’s primary schools.

“It’s wonderful to see the children bring the nativity scene to life with such enthusiasm.”

In 2012, South Gloucestershire schools set a new Guinness World record at Clifton Cathedral for the most living figures in a nativity scene, with 845.
