A SCOUT Group in Cirencester is suffering from a lack of leaders, and is facing the closure of its Beaver pack in the new year if volunteers cannot be found.

2nd Cirencester Scout Group (BPSA), consisting of a Scout, Cub and Beaver groups, meet at St Lawrence Hall in Chesterton.

Group leader Phil Sealy said: "We are light on leaders across the board. We need six in total to enable us to grow and thrive and have two at the moment. The Beaver group in particular is most at risk.

"We are hoping to get some more support. It can be very rewarding. The kids we work with are absolutely fantastic."

Children become involved in a host of activities at the group including camping, life skills, crafts and work in the community.

Last Wednesday, the scouts were given a task to shop to a set budget for their up and coming party to also include food for donation towards Cirencester’s foodbank.

The children were not allowed to use technology and they had to add up on paper or in their head and were rewarded by Tesco's with Christmas hats.

On Wednesday, December 19 the group will join the Sleigh ride for the Round Table.

Andrea Fielder is a mum to six year-old Freddie, who attends the under-threat Beavers.

She said: "My son gets loads out of it. They have experiences they would not normally get including camping, guest speakers from RNLI to the Police, making slime, wild walks and litter collecting. It is really good for their interpersonal skills.

"At the moment from Rissington group are coming to help cover the running of the group."
