A SOUTH Cerney family’s Christmas light display in memory of a much loved wife, mother and grandmother is raising funds for the fifth year for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Kelvin Wearing from Beverstone Road in South Cerney arranges the special display each year in memory of his wife, Sandra, with the help of his family.

In the past five years the family have raised over £2,000 for the palliative and bereavement support charity through their charity Christmas lights display, and other charity events throughout the year too.

A notice by the display reads: “This light display is in memory of a dear wife, beloved mother and much loved nanny. All donations will be going to the Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice where she spent her final days. Thank you.”

The money raised could pay for 105 hours of expert and compassionate care at the hospice, helping its Sue Ryder nurses, support team and care staff be there for local families when it matters.

This year the Christmas charity display is made up of a 91 silhouettes, three projectors, seven sets of icicles, four festive inflatables, two twinkling snow flake curtains, two sets of fairy lights and two sets of pine cone lights.

Kelvin’s daughter, Debbie Walton said: “The work the hospice does is amazing. As mum loved the Christmas lights this seems like the perfect way to raise valuable funds for the hospice.

"We as a family are incredibly grateful to the hospice for everything they did for mum and for us too. The display keeps getting bigger every year with new additions.

“We would love to raise lots of money for the hospice, so please come and see the display and donate if you can.”

Elise Hoadley, Hospice Director at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice added: “This is beautiful way to remember someone special and raise funds for our hospice so our expert and compassionate care can continue.

"Not only will it spread joy to local families but it will help us be there for local families when it matters, whether that is the diagnosis of a terminal condition or the loss of a loved one. We are so grateful to people like Kelvin and his family for fundraising for us – as a charity we can’t give our care without their vital support. Everyone at the hospice sends their best wishes to them for Christmas.”

The Christmas display can be seen at Beverstone Road, South Cerney, Cirencester, Gloucestershire until January 1 2019, where donations to the Gloucestershire hospice will be gratefully received.
