Two police officers were taken to hospital after a crash on the A417 near Cirencester.

It happened at around 10.30am near the Crown of Crucis in Ampney Crucis.

Officers on an emergency call were involved in a crash with another vehicle.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire police said: "We were called at 10.34am following reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A417 near Ampney Crucis. 

"This involved a police vehicle which was on an emergency call and a Skoda. 

"Two police officers have been taken to Swindon hospital for their injuries to be assessed. 

"It’s believed that the occupants of the Skoda suffered no injuries.

"A road closure is currently in place whilst collision investigators are at the scene."

The officers were later discharged from the Great Western Hospital with minor injuries. 

A witness at the scene added: "We could not get through at 11am.

"There were over six police cars plus a fire engine.

"A police van is badly damaged."

The road was closed both ways between Waterton Lane and School Lane but has now re-opened.
