One of the lead organisers of Chipping Sodbury Parkrun is celebrating an achievement of his own.

Andy Airey recently made a trip to Wendover Woods, near Luton to complete his 100th different Parkrun.

Parkrun, a 5k run that takes place every Saturday at various locations, was started in 2004 and now is the largest mass sporting event in the world, with over 5.2 million registered runners.

Out of those runners only 334 have achieved what Andy has of running 100 different events, taking him over four years and 10,000 miles.

He has also just one Parkrun away from completing all the circuits in the South West, something which would make him only the second person to do so.

In light of his most recent achievement at the Wendover Woods a cake made by fellow runner Emma was presented to Andy.

Chipping Sodbury Parkrun has grown massively since it started, with Andy revealing it is now being recognised in the community.

"It is a great social event," Andy said.

"We are actually working with a number of GP practices from the area as they are now prescribing the Parkrun as a form of therapy.

"We are growing and with our new gazebo, thanks to Waitrose, we are hoping to get out and talk to people about the benefits of getting involved."

Chipping Sodbury Parkrun will also be taking place at 9.30am on Christmas Day.

"I will be Run Director on Christmas Day," he said.

"It is one of only two days per year that the event can be held not on a Saturday. The other is New Years Day.

"We have a few ‘Parkrun tourists’ that will be running/jogging or walking with us as they visit friends and family over the festive break. "Christmas fancy dress is recommended with some prizes for those who make the effort.

"We expect over 400 to take part in this free-event as most other Parkruns are closed on the 25th."
