The Mayor of Thornbury, Councillor Shirley Holloway, has said she will not be attending this year's Berkeley Hunt.
Traditionally held on Boxing Day, the hunt parades down Thornbury High Street before heading to the countryside.
Last year, former Mayor Cllr Helen Harrison attended the event after being invited by the organisers.
It is believed she became the first Thornbury Mayor to attend the event in an official capacity.
At the time Cllr Harrison said: "I think for Thornbury residents, this is a massive part of Christmas. You have Christmas Day and then you go to walk off your dinner by coming up to the hunt.
"Whether people are part of the yes or no on the hunting debate, many just enjoy the chance to be a part of a community event with this level of history and popularity."
A spokeswoman for Thornbury Town Council confirmed Cllr Holloway would not be attending the hunt and did not wish to comment further.
