A COLLECTION of fun cartoons detailing how people have enriched their lives through helping others in the community is on show in Dursley Library.

The artworks were commissioned by the Barnwood Trust to illustrate some of its community building work, carried out with help from World Jungle, in the Cam and Dursley area.

Illustrator Karl Whitely came up with a series of initial doodles after listening to people's experiences of volunteering.

He then worked these drawings up into finished story boards.

The cartoons tell how a Donald Duck costume has made a massive difference to one woman's life. Sally Haywood says she wears the Disney costume to cheer up children in hospital and has found that it cheers her up too.

Roy's story captures how volunteering has helped him deal with his depression.

And another tells how saying 'yes' to one Zumba class opened the door to new friends and an unexpected new career as a dance teacher for one resident.

The final cartoon details some of the many activities taking place at Dursley's Chantry Centre.

The four storyboards were unveiled at an event celebrating the community journey of volunteers in the Cam and Dursley area.

The event was hosted by Barnwood Trust and World Jungle and was attended by Stroud District Council leader Doina Cornell.

The story boards will be on display in the library until the end of January.
