A pastor from a church in Morton has left after seven years at the helm.

Pastor Jonathan Hunt arrived at Morton Baptist Church near Thornbury in 2012.

His arrival ended a period of almost six years without a preacher at the church.

In a farewell message Jonathan said: "It has been a privilege to serve as Pastor at Morton for the past seven years.

"The time had come for me to take a break from ministry but I will be continuing to preach and to work for a Christian publishing company in Macclesfield.

"On Sunday, December 30 we held a very moving thanksgiving and farewell service, and Clare and I are deeply thankful for the kind messages and gifts given to us.

"Several church members have left at the same time as my wife and I, but as has been said, there has been no 'falling out'.

"Those who remain are continuing to meet each Sunday at 10:30am for the foreseeable future, and will continue to offer the same warm welcome to all who wish to come and worship with them."
