A school headteacher has revealed her delight at the schools achievements being mentioned in a South Gloucestershire Council cabinet meeting.

Ms Izzy Ambrose took over as head of Yate Academy in January of 2018 and brought in the best GCSE results that the school had ever achieved in the summer.

The fantastic grades put Yate Academy within the top 4% of schools nationally and also as the highest performing school in South Gloucestershire and Bristol.

The progress the school has made is quite remarkable, improving by nearly one grade per student per subject on the year before.

Leader of South Gloucestershire Council, Cllr Toby Savage is also the cabinet member for schools and recognised Ms Ambrose and Yate Academy's achievements in a meeting.

The headteacher then revealed how excited she was that the success of the school was being recognised.

"It is fantastic to hear that our hard work and achievements have been recognised," she said.

"I am desperately proud of all students and staff at Yate Academy and I can't wait to continue the school improvement journey this year.

"The vision of the school is to ensure all our students have a better chance or success than if they attended any other school in the country.

"This years GCSE performance shows we are close to making this a reality."
