A man was injured after confronting a burglar in his back garden in the early hours of the morning.

The offender tried entering a shed in a garden on Hammond Way, Gloucester at around 5.20am today.

He was confronted by the homeowner who was left with superficial wounds from what is believed to be a Stanley knife.

Police officers responded along with the support of a police dog however attempts to locate the offender were unsuccessful.

Officers in Gloucester are now appealing for witnesses over the incident, with the offender being described as: "A young white man who was around 5ft 8 and was wearing a dark jacket, potentially leather material.

"CCTV enquiries show that he left on a bike and rode in the direction of Hucclecote Road.

"If you were in the areas of Barnwood Road or Barnett Way at the time and have any dashcam or CCTV footage please call police on 101 with incident number 22 of 14 January."
