SET in the heart of Dursley - just by the fire station - Kingshill House is an historic Georgian mansion that dates back to 1705.

Now a community arts centre, the house has seen many changes throughout the years. It was a family home for 230 years and became offices for the council in the 1930s.

Despite receiving listed status in 1952, by 1995 the building was derelict, with boarded up windows, crumbling brickwork and a shabby interior.

Enter local drama group DODS, who saw the potential in the Grade II listed building and began an extensive refurbishment programme.

In the latest phase of its fascinating history, the beautifully refurbished house is a growing arts centre, providing the community with performances, workshops and exhibitions as well as hiring out its rooms for social events and business meetings.

The centre’s team is looking for new members to get involved and have a say in the house’s future. For details email admin@kingshillhouse.org.uk
