A charity that does a lot of work across South Gloucestershire area has received a sum of money after being selected as the charity for the South Gloucestershire Show 2018.

The event that takes place in Westerleigh near Yate draws in thousands of people every year, with a different charity being selected as the nominated organisation each year.

This time around it was Jessie May, a charity that provides stay at home care for terminally ill children and supports their families across the region.

The Jessie May team had a stall at the event where they raised £1000 themselves, before being given an additional £2500 from the organisers of the event.

Currently, 136 children with life-limiting conditions are being supported by the charity.

Julian Withers, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Jessie May, said: “The whole Jessie May team had a fantastic time at last year’s show.

"We were delighted to be the show’s chosen charity and spent two gloriously sunny days meeting supporters, sharing some amazing stories about our nurses’ work, and raising vital funds to ensure they can continue to support local families.

“It was a pleasure to paint the showground purple as our teams ventured out to meet supporters old and new in our purple Jessie May t-shirts. Events like these make a huge difference to our charity and we are hugely grateful to the South Gloucestershire Show for the opportunity.

The charity also received some more good news as it was revealed that they would be chosen as the selected charity for the 2019 event as well.
