A new defibrillator has been installed just metres from playing fields and a school.

It has been placed right next to Abbotswood Primary School in the South Yate area, next to the old Kelston Playing Fields.

Dodington Parish Council placed their second device in the area after the instalment of their first in 2015.

On that occasion it was placed outside of their hall on the site of Raysfield School on Finch Road.

This has been taken on by the council after a residents son suffered from a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

At the time, the son was 17-years-old and collapsed without warning.

Thankfully, the parishioners son made a full recovery and with his family has been campaigning to raise awareness and to try and get defibrillators installed since.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Dodington Parish Council are really pleased to have a second defibrillator in the rural ward area.

“In the next financial year are looking at installing a third, near Codrington.”

The defibrillator is situated outside the changing rooms at QEII Playing Fields and has been placed in a locked cabinet.

In the event that you may need the device, any member of the public can call 999 and will be told a code to access cabinet.

Alex Turner, of Yate, collapsed outside of his home in 2013 in the early hours of the morning.

He was found by a neighbour who performed CPR on him whilst waiting for the ambulance crews.

He has since been monitored closely along with his family and was described by crews that worked on him as an inspiration to others who suffer a similar episode.
