The Leader of South Gloucestershire Council was forced to defend himself at a cabinet meeting after he was asked about recent comments he made.

Cllr Toby Savage, who is also the cabinet member for schools, drew criticism from some after he branded those that believed a documentary on the BBC 'naive', last year.

The documentary went in to schools in the area and uncovered some serious issues, including a lack of funding.

However Cllr Savage described those that believed the documentary naive.

At a meeting on Monday, Leader of the Lib Dem group Cllr Claire Young, questioned whether Cllr Savage regretted making the remark.

Cllr Savage's responsed, saying: “I do not resile from the comments made about the editorial decisions of this London-based TV company.”

This claim comes after the planned budget for the coming year was released.

This budget included £71 million of funding that will be used to build new schools, improve and maintain existing schools and offer more places for children across South Gloucestershire.
