Roadworks will start next week in preparation for the Cribbs Patchway metrobus extension.

The metrobus network is to be extended from The Mall bus station to Bristol Parkway train station, via the forthcoming Cribbs Patchway new neighbourhood on the former Filton Airfield.

Included in the work will be a new railway bridge over Gipsy Patch Lane, Stoke Gifford.

BT will be diverting underground utilities from Monday and, although this is not expected to cause disruption on the roads, some foot/cycle paths may be affected.

From June 3 the road will be closed at the railway bridge to all drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

This is expected to last for four weeks.

A signed diversion will be in place and access to properties and side roads will be maintained.

The main work will begin later in 2019 and continue through 2020 and 2021, with the new route being used for the first time in 2022.

Gipsy Patch Lane will again be closed at the railway bridge in early 2020 for approximately eight months.

South Gloucestershire Council is looking for ways to reduce the initial four-week closure.

They have launched a survey to better understand travel patterns on Gipsy Patch Lane.

The survey states: "We understand that all of these roadworks will have a major impact on traffic in the nearby and wider area. We apologise in advance for this inconvenience and would like to assure you that we are doing everything we can to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users."
