The options for Brexit are now quite clear and should be put to a public vote. They are:

- The Prime Minister's deal, which means we leave the EU with no idea where we are going and probably a further 10 years of wrangling over the detail of the final political settlement, with all the economic damage such uncertainty will create;

- A no deal Brexit, which would be followed by economic meltdown and the demise of so many businesses and jobs that people have worked so hard to make successful;

- We stay in the EU.

It is madness to to treat as sacrosanct a vote three years ago, when 37 per cent of the population voted in favour of leaving the EU (after a campaign full of false promises and inevitable uncertainty), when we now know that it is likely to impact so negatively on the vast majority of British people.

The government should be duty bound to check that that is what the people really want.
