Works to reduce conflict on a popular road for commuters started earlier today.

The Butts in Rodborough will be closed this week to allow for alterations to the traffic calming measures on the road.

It will be closed from its junction with Walkley Hill for approximately 100 metres.

Gloucestershire County Council have worked with Rodborough Road Safety Group to make alterations to the existing traffic calming build-outs located in The Butts.

Road safety will be improved by removing the eastern build-out and widening the western build-out.

The council say the move will provide clear instruction of priority and reduce conflict past the build-outs.

Dan Tiffney, local highways manager for Gloucestershire County Council said: "We are working with the Rodborough Road Safety Group to address a number of concerns from residents about road safety in the area.

"The works taking place this week on The Butts in the village will encourage vehicles to slow down as they travel from Rodborough Common, with vehicles having to give way to oncoming traffic.

"I want to thank residents and commuters for their patience while we improve the road layout."

Access will not be guaranteed with the exception in emergencies.

The order will stay in place until Friday, March 8.

A diversion route and the road closure will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
