VISITORS to Westonbirt Arboretum can help to mark an important anniversary by sharing their memories of trips to this popular place.

The Arboretum near Tetbury is planning a special summer trail as part of the Forestry Commission centenary year and is asking for help from the local community to take part in the ‘Photosynthesis - Memories Project’.

They are asking people to send in photos of themselves, friends and family at Westonbirt, that conjure happy memories or interesting stories, to help tell the human story behind the popular Arboretum.

Perhaps you have a photo of your grandmother working in Silk Wood with the land girls during the First World War, or a memorable family picnic taken when you were a child? Or perhaps photos of children and grandchildren on their first outing to the Arboretum? Whatever the story, from big life milestones to small family moments, Westonbirt want to hear about them.

Susanna Bayliss, who is managing the project, said: “Our team is looking forward to seeing photos (the older the better!) of Westonbirt through the years and finding out what the Arboretum has meant to the community over the decades”.

The Photo categories are: Snapshots through time: photos of you and your family at the Arboretum through the decades, A special occasion: photos of those golden moments and Westonbirt before digital: early images of time at the Arboretum.

All photos will be used to create an online gallery on the Westonbirt website during the summer, and a select few images and their accompanying stories will be chosen for display on the summer seasonal trail.

All entries will be entered into a prize draw with three winners receiving one adult Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum membership for a year and a family ticket to Enchanted Christmas 2019.

Photos and accompanying stories should be sent to photos.westonbirt@forestryengland.uk

The deadline is March 31.
