Thornbury marked Fairtrade Fortnight, with a special Coffee Morning on Saturday.

Junieth Leiva, a young coffee and cocoa grower from Nicaragua, spoke at the event organised by Thornbury Churches Together.

She gave an illustrated account of her village, showing how her community benefited from being part of the Fairtrade movement.

Junieth was welcomed by Thornbury Mayor Shirley Holloway and Deputy Mayor Angela Symonds who were launching the Town Council's new Fairtrade Directory.

The Directory is an A4 list of 14 different Fairtrade products which can be obtained in Thornbury from 18 different shops or cafes. Further items will be added as they become available.

Fairtrade products available in the town include ice cream, wine and gin as well as tea, coffee and chocolate.
