Heroic firefighters spent three hours rescuing an injured horse trapped in a storm drain. 

The horse's back legs became trapped in the storm drain after it collapsed near Cirencester.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the common in Siddington, at 10.20am.

A crew from Cirencester and the Gloucestershire north animal rescue team attended the incident.

A vet was also called to anaesthetise the horse to allow firefighters to rescue it.

Three hours later, the horse was finally freed from the collapsed storm drain.

Firefighters left at 1.30pm leaving the horse in the hands of the vet.

Both horse and rider were said to be safe and sound.
