Chipping Sodbury Town Hall hosted the Avon Association of Drama One Act Festival last week, where numerous drama groups from the area compete against each other for awards and progression in the competition.

More than 10 groups put on one act of a performance and are judged accordingly by an adjudicator, in this case Chris Jaeger MBE.

Two shows are then selected to progress to the next round, providing them with an opportunity to perform in bigger venues at higher levels of the national competition.

At this years festival Sodbury Players, who were hosting, progressed to the next round that will be held at the Mission Theatre in Bath.

Their performances of Untucked and All The Saints finished in second and fourth place, however they went through as other groups were not opting for the next round.

Their progression saw them receive some money as rewards, however Mayor of Sodbury James Ball was in attendance on the night to assist with the presentation and, before the winners were announced, revealed he would double the winning prize money for the groups that progressed.

Sodbury Players thanked the Mayor on their official Facebook page, posting: "It’s been very rewarding hosting the Avon Association of Drama Short Play Festival at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall over the last few days.

"Last night at the end of the Festival, Mayor of Chipping Sodbury, James Ball, very kindly donated additional funding to help groups on the next round.

"Thank you James for your incredibly kind and generous donation."
