Thornbury was awash with the colours of spring on Saturday.

Green-fingered residents put their prize plants on display as part of Thornbury Horticultural Society's annual Spring Flower Show.

There were well over 200 entries into a variety of classes from more than 40 competitors.

A whole host of people went home victorious.

Alan Jenner took the prize for the most points in show, winning the daffodils and other bulbs section along the way.

Dot Culverhouse won the classes for other plants.

Floral arrangements took up a whole side of the hall, giving the judge a difficult decision.

Julie Sparks eventually triumphed with one point more than Margaret Silverthorn.

A number of clever designs featured in the adult crafts category,

Zoe Hardman won for her garden trowel decorated to look like a bird.

The children's sections were headed by five-year-old Victoria Burgess, who made a birthday card decorated with butterflies.

Nine-year-old Lizzie Latham narrowly beat her twin sister Beccy to take the most points award.

Awards for photography were scooped by Sheriden Rendall ahead of Sue Aitken.

Mr Rendall also beat Zoe Griffiths to take the top prize for cookery.

The sight and smells of spring flowers brought many spectators to the Armstrong Hall.

There was also a plant stall to raise funds for the horticultural society.

Chairman Rex Davis brought the show to a close.

The awards were announced by show secretary Dot Culverhouse and presented by club president Rita Freed.
