Commuters and passengers of trains from Yate Station will now be able to apply for compensation if their service is late.

Commuters are often left on the train platforms at Yate station waiting for services to arrive, Great Western Railway have also been criticised in the past for providing too few coaches on their trains through the area.

Now though, the Managing Director of Great Western Railway has informed Yate Town Council that passengers will be able to claim compensation if trains are delayed any longer than 15 minutes.

In the email, Mark Hopwood of GWR said: "We have wanted to offer our customers simple, consistent, easy to claim compensation for some time and I am delighted that the new scheme is now in place.

"GWR customers with single, return or weekly tickets will be able to claim compensation for any delay over 15 minutes whatever the cause.

"We have been preparing for the change and have invested in new systems to make claiming as easy as possible.

"Over the next few weeks we will be contacting customers to let them know about the change."

The new scheme will come in from April 1, more details can be found here.
