Workers uncovered two shells, believed to be from the Second World War, just after 9am this morning.
They were found on the site of the former Lectern pub, on Pelham Terrace, Lewes Road.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Just after 9am on Thursday workers on a building project on the site of the former Lectern public house, Pelham Terrace, Lewes Road, Brighton, found two shells, believed to be from the World War II era, each less than a foot long.
“That part of the site was cleared and military ordnance disposal will be attending to deal with the matter.
“There is no interruption to traffic and no local evacuation.”
