There are no plans to change the road layout of Cirencester Town Centre despite calls from residents and businesses.
With a road closure in place on Old Tetbury Road between March 11 to March 15, the one way system on Castle Street was temporarily reversed.
This meant traffic in the town centre could turn right into Castle Street, a previously permanent feature before the revamp of the Market Place in 2016.
Now residents are calling for the change to be made permanent describing it as 'more people friendly, safer and a vast improvement the the current system'.
Despite calls from residents, Richard Gray, local highways manager for Gloucestershire County Council said there are no plans to make the change permanent.
“We always welcome feedback and note the comments made by the public," Richard said.
"The temporary reversal of the traffic flow in Castle Street was made to improve safety for our highways crew who were carrying out repairs outside the museum.
"There are currently no plans to consider making this a permanent change.”
A spokesperson for the Cirencester Town Council said: "Whilst this is a highways matter, the town council is currently working in partnership with Cotswold District Council in preparing a town centre masterplan and through the Cirencester Futures initiative has begun engagement with the public on the current needs of the town centre and in shaping future development and infrastructure."
