Nearly five million people have signed a petition calling for the Brexit deadline to be cancelled.

But how many have signed the signature in Gloucestershire, North Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire?

The online petition has seen the highest rate of sign-ups on record and caused the website to crash on Thursday.

Created by Margaret Anne Georgiadou, the petition is calling for the UK to remain in the EU.

It reads: "The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is 'the will of the people'.

We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU.

A People's Vote may not happen - so vote now."

More than 4,950,000 people have signed the petition.

Thornbury and Yate

Luke Hall MP is the member of parliament for Thornbury and Yate.

So far, 6,823 people from the area has signed the petition.

That is 8.11 percent of 84,270 constitutes in the area.

Stroud

David Drew MP is the member of parliament for Stroud.

So far, 11,761 people from the area has signed the petition.

That is nearly 12 percent of 102,093 constitutes in the area.

Cotswolds

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP is the member of parliament for the Cotswolds.

So far 2,517 people from the area has signed the petition.

That is 2.58 percent of 97,637 constitutes.

North Wiltshire

James Gray MP is the member of parliament for North Wiltshire.

So far, 8,310 people from the area has signed the petition.

That is 9.17 percent of 90,649 constitutes.

However, the Prime Minister said she “will not countenance” revoking Article 50 despite the petition calling for the Brexit deadline to be cancelled passing 3 million signatures.

When asked for Theresa May’s view on the petition, a No 10 spokeswoman said Mrs May worried failing to deliver Brexit would cause “potentially irreparable damage to public trust”.

She said: “The Prime Minister has long been clear that failing to deliver on the referendum result would be a failure of our democracy and something she couldn’t countenance.

“The Prime Minister has said many times she will not countenance revoking Article 50.”

Revoke Article 50 began trending on Twitter following the speech and continued to be a global trend into Thursday.
