NEW hospital equipment will help patients fight dementia, thanks to a donation from Dursley Lions.

The Lions have given £2500 to the Vale Community Hospital, which will go towards new reminiscence therapy equipment.

Known as Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activities (RITA), the package allows patients to use apps, games and other leisure activities as part of their hospital recovery.

Although used primarily for elderly patients with cognitive impairments such as dementia, it has also shown to be effective in calming those with distress or anxiety.

Sister Harper-Easthope said that the purchase of such equipment was of invaluable help to the hospital, and thanked the Lions for their generous support.

Dursley Lions raise money for local good causes by selling furniture kindly donated by members of the public.

Anyone who would like to be involved, or simply would like to find out more about the organisation, can visit the website dursleylions.org, find the Lions on Facebook or call in and say hello at The Lions Den, May Lane, Dursley, on any Saturday morning.
