EIGHTEEN hours of arts helped mark the end of winter in Wotton-under-Edge on Saturday.

For the fourth year, Under the Edge Arts (UTEA) hosted its popular Spring into Summer event, featuring 33 performances across two venues.

With about 600 people coming through the doors of the Chipping Hall and Chipping Hall Clubroom over the course of the day, £900 was raised for charity.

UTEA chairman and organiser of the marathon, Martin Clarke said: “We had a terrific response from performers, audiences and volunteers to our fourth celebration of the joys of spring and the early signs of warmer weather.

“It’s designed to be a day for the whole community, a free celebration of what we can offer as a town to its people and our visitors.

"We hope that we can make the arts more accessible by making the programme as varied as possible. This year we had opera and a gong bath, the KLB Samba Band and a body mapping workshop, African drumming and jazz. Making it free is a part of that.

“By selling drinks and gently seeking donations we raised over £700 for the Wotton Arts Project Charity. We also raised over £200 for Brain Tumour Research by holding a bring and buy hat sale, which brought out the eccentricity in all of us.

"Roll on next year, our fifth Spring into Summer."
