A giant orienteering race will take place this summer in Thornbury.

Bristol Orienteering Klub (BOK) are hosting the event round the streets, parks and school grounds of the town. They expect hundreds of people will take part.

Competitors will run between a series of controls as fast as they can using a special detailed orienteering map.

There are no set routes, the challenge is to find the quickest way around the course.

Each runner will have a timing device which is picked up by the electronic controls placed on white and orange kites dotted around the town.

All are welcome to attend the event on June 16.

For experienced orienteers, this race is part of the South England Orienteering League (SEOUL) and the second day of the BOK BLAST 2019 following the race at the University of the West of England the day before.

There will be courses for all ages and abilities from one to eight kilometres, as well as a special three kilometre race designed for those new to the hobby.

Registration on the day will be from 10am-12pm at Turnberries Community Centre.

It will cost £6 to enter and you will get a map to keep, hire of a device that registers your time and a printout of your results.
