South Gloucestershire Council have submitted a bid for funding that will be used to completely 'regenerate' Yate.

The bid is being made for a section of funding from the Government's £675 million 'Our Plan For The High Street' scheme.

Funding, if secured, will then be used to deliver a park and ride around the area, improve health services at the Yate MIU and also investing in schools.

Cllr Toby Savage, Leader of the council said: "The Council value our high streets and, as a council, have invested significantly in the town with more planned for the future.

"As a result, Yate’s offer has been improving recently but with this bid, we want to take the lead and aim to present a bigger vision for Yate as a whole, with a rejuvenated Town Centre at its core.”

Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall added: “As our MP I am extremely proud to call Yate my home, it is an amazing place to live and raise a family.

“I am delighted that South Gloucestershire Council is meeting this new focus on our town’s positive future with this bid, not just with words but with action as part of a wider strategy on transport, health, and education.

“I will be working alongside the Council and my local teams to back this bid at every step for our community. Yate has the brightest of futures.”

Yate resident Liz Brennan said: “As a lifelong Yate resident and a local mum I want to ensure that Yate thrives as a community, for my children and their futures”

“Like many town centres however, it is facing significant challenges of vacant shops - this bid could make a massive difference, not only to Yate, but to the surrounding area, as the pull of a rejuvenated town centre attracts new businesses and new visitors to our area.”
