A PUB at the heart of its community has won the Gazette Series award for the top watering hole in the area.

After hundreds of votes flooded in from our readers, the Pub of the Year crown has been claimed by The Falcon Steakhouse in Wotton-under-Edge.

Beloved for its wide selection of drinks, fantastic food and the friendly atmosphere created by both staff and customers, The Falcon was hugely popular with Gazette readers – and the pub's Facebook page has over 15,000 likes.

The Falcon Steakhouse overcame fierce competition from five other treasured locals which made our finalist shortlist – The Fleece in Hillesley, The Rose and Crown in Rangeworthy, The Old Spot Inn in Dursley, Thornbury’s The Anchor Inn and Chipping Sodbury's The Royal Oak.

The landlords at The Falcon can now look forward to a Pub of the Year 2019 trophy and a two-night stay at Melbourne Lodge in Hertfordshire as their prize.

See next week’s Gazette for an interview with the winners from the popular Wotton-under-Edge pub.
