BUMPER crowds have been turning out to see performances by the Chipping Sodbury Music Society.

On Tuesday, March 12, the music society organised an event at the Town Hall in Chipping Sodbury with musicians from the South Gloucestershire Music Hub.

A bumper crowd turned out to listen as performances from numerous groups provided a fantastic variety of music.

The South Gloucestershire Youth Chamber Orchestra played Mozart’s Symphony 35 with great assurance.

Kingswood’s Don’t Fret, made up of guitars and double bass, revealed a delicate touch and great restraint especially in the andante from Vivaldi’s concerto.

Flutissimo, an advanced group of flutists, engaged in modern work by Catherine McMichael and Samantha Cox.

The next performance came from the Kingswood Wind Orchestra as they took on The Tempest Irish Tune from County Derry.

Little Stoke Western Winds brought out the humour of A Stroll in the Park and the clap-along Build me up Buttercup.

The South Gloucestershire Youth String Ensemble played a typical tango by Piazolla with fine rhythmic control, and the stately Pavane from Warlock’s Capriol Suite was given its full English flavour.

The South Gloucestershire Youth Wind Orchestra provided a barnstorming finale with well-known tunes from film scores by John Williams.

This brilliantly rounded off the event, with those in attendance, going home satisfied after what was at times a truly fantastic event.

There are numerous other events that are held by the society, with a performance from the Ardeton Ensemble on Tuesday, April 2, also helping to bring an incredible array talent to the Chipping Sodbury Town Hall stage.

The Ardeton Ensemble are a trio of musicians that are all well-known in the Chipping Sodbury area.

They formed in 2002 with Sarah Loveridge, violin, Rachel Clennell, viola and Dury Loveridge, cello, touring around the UK to various arenas.

They are all well known for their work with the South Gloucestershire Music Hub as well.

Their performance at the Town Hall on April 2 was stunning, with the trio playing superbly well in front of a crowd of eager listeners.

Now, the music society looks ahead to their next big event that will take place Tuesday, May 7.

Popular tango band Carismático will be performing music described by the society as ‘descriptive and joyful’.

Tickets for the event can be bought from Cadeaux & Co in Hatherell’s Yard.
