SLIMBRIDGE gardeners went head to head in the village’s popular spring flower show.

Taking place in Slimbridge village hall on Saturday, the event included classes for vegetables, flowers, floral art, cookery and children’s crafts.

There was a question mark over what state the blooms would be in, after a spate of bad weather in the days leading up to the show, starting with a heavy frost then heavy rain and hailstones which battered the plants.

But despite the conditions, there were plenty of daffodils and tulips on display.

Phil Sealey triumphed with the most points in the whole show and his grandson Harry Terrett scooped the children’s junior trophy.

Aidan Hall took the children’s senior trophy, Steve House won the cookery cup and Carole Jeffes claimed the floral arrangement cup.

Gillian Polac and Neil Howarth won handicrafts awards and Norma Griffiths' daffodils and tulips came out top.
