An Avon and Somerset Police officer has been dismissed after they failed to provide a breath sample for a roadside breathalyser.

DC Emma George, 42, was found behind the wheel at a petrol station at around 2.30pm on December 11 last year but when asked by officers for a breath sample, she did not provide one.

She was convicted at North Somerset Magistrate's Court in February and was banned for driving for 17 months.

She was also required to attend a drink-drive awareness course and fined £800.

At a hearing at Police HQ in Portishead, she was dismissed without notice.

Chief Constable said DC George has been convicted of a “serious offence”.

He said the decision to dismiss DC George without notice was made to protect public confidence in policing and maintain high professional standards.
