YOUNGSTERS in wheelchairs could be joining their skateboarding and scootering friends on a special inclusive ramp, if vital funding is secured.

The Inclusive Ramps for Young Champs project is aiming to turn a derelict piece of land in Saul into an accessible and inclusive play area that everyone can enjoy.

The community group behind the scheme is calling for your vote to secure £50,000 of National Lottery funding as part of this year’s People’s Projects.

To be in with a chance of claiming the top prize, they are asking people to support their bid by visiting the People’s Projects website to vote.

Jane Bolton, treasurer and Saul’s play champion at Fretherne with Saul Memorial Hall and Playing Field, said: “This is a great chance to help disabled young people join their non-disabled friends in a brand new skatepark - designed with everyone’s needs in mind.

“We urge local people to get behind us.

“If successful, this will help us to make an even bigger difference to our community by providing more opportunity for inclusive play at Saul Playing Field, which already offers a host of accessible play equipment and spaces.

“We in fact won the Fields in Trust Inclusive Play award just a few years ago.

“Too often disabled young people end up being excluded from the fun that others enjoy.

“There are very few skatepark areas in the UK that have been designed for inclusive play, and we want to see our whole community whizzing around on their scooters, skateboards and wheelchairs.”

Saul’s Inclusive Ramps for Champs is one of of five projects in the West Country East region to have made it through to the finals.

The three that get the most votes will win the money they need for their project.

Voting closes at noon on Monday, April 15. People can vote once per region and will need a telephone number or email address to vote.
