Recently the Gazette announced the winner of its Pub Of The Year competition.

It was The Falcon Steakhouse in Wotton-under-Edge that emerged as the victor, receiving a huge amount of the votes cast in the competition.

This week they were presented with their trophy and the owner, Andy Starling took the time to thank everyone who voted for them.

"It is a really nice feeling," Andy said.

"We get awards every now again but the ones that are public lead in terms of voting are always more special to us."

Andy and the team at The Falcon work hard to appeal to customers and their regulars through social media, with regular updates being provided on that.

On Facebook, nearly 16,000 like the venue.

"We have a massive social media following which we took advantage of and we pushed our please vote for us campaign on that and everyone came through for us," Andy continued.

"We get a big customer base and we get people from all over the district and the county and they all come to us on a regular basis which is a really good thing."

The Falcon actually won the award before in 2015 and Andy revealed his delight that the trophy had returned to them at the pub, even if it was a little bit smaller than the original.

"It is nice to have the trophy again and we are really pleased," Andy said.

"It is amazing, a really good achievement and this is the best thing we could get."

When asked about the plans for the future, Andy revealed that the team were just hoping to continue providing the great service that saw them scoop the award ahead of The Rose & Crown in Rangeworthy, The Fleece at Hillesley, The Old Spot Inn at Dursley, The Royal Oak in Chipping Sodbury and The Anchor Inn near Thornbury.

"We don't change too much here, we have been here for around 7/8 years now and there have been some small changes along the way but it is pretty much going to be more of the same, great service, great food and great times," Andy finished.
