Dodington Parish Council took the opportunity at a recent meeting to pay tribute to an outgoing servant for the area as well as a former chair of the council that sadly passed away last year.

South Gloucestershire Council’s representative for Sodbury Linda Boon has been a part of the Dodington Parish Council for over two decades but has announced that she is stepping down ahead of the upcoming elections next month.

She was presented with flowers by the Chair of the Council, Cllr David Lane and given a round of applause by all of those in attendance.

Afterwards Cllr Boon thanked those at the council for all of their hard work.

“It has been absolute privilege to be on this council,” she said.

“Dodington is a really lovely council to be a part of and I have loved it.

“Thanks to everyone for always helping me with anything.”

Tributes were also paid at the meeting to former councillor Gloria Stephens who passed away in September 2018, after 23 years on the council. During which she helped improve green spaces around the area and also various initiatives to improve physical and mental health.

“We all miss her cheerful and sometimes forceful way in meetings,” Cllr David Lane.

Members on the parish council said: “Gloria was outspoken and passionate about matters in the community and was happy to act.

“She is truly missed by us all.”
