Back in October 2016 a small group of like-minded Thornbury residents came together to form Thornbury Residents Against Poorly Planned Development (TRAPP’D), an action group to fight against the overdevelopment of the Town by speculative developers.

Since then our group has won a number of small battles that have definitely slowed down the process and made South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) and the developers realise that the opinion of Thornbury residents really does count for something.

Whilst we are currently awaiting the Government Planning Inspector’s Decision on the ‘Bovis Appeal’, our latest action is aimed at securing a debate with SGC over their plans to support the development of up to 3,000 homes at Buckover as part of the West of England Joint Spatial Plan (JSP). To this end, we have recently launched an online e-Petition before the Examination in Public (EiP) hearings by Government Planning Inspectors commence on 2nd July this year. The discussions specific to Buckover Garden Village are scheduled to commence on 2nd October with Thornbury following one week later.

We know from listening to residents that there is overwhelming support for a thorough review of local housing development planning, but it is now even more vital that residents ‘put pen to paper’ to show this support.

Our Petition can be read and signed through a link on our website at trappdgroup.weebly.com, or by a Google search . The Petition currently has over 550 signatures which makes it easily the most popular petition on the SGC website.

Also with the forthcoming Parish & District Council Elections on 2nd May, we have written to all of the local candidates seeking their support, and we will publish the results on our website before the Polling date.
