A hospital has admitted to losing a number of Tetbury patients from their waiting list for major surgery.

A number of patients at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital were missed off the list due to what the hospital say was a 'an administrative error'.

One resident from Tetbury, who does not want to be named, was put on a waiting list for major surgery back in October 2017.

She was put on the waiting list for surgery to remove a fibroid in her uterus which was 20cm in diameter.

"I was told by a consultant back in 2017 that the waiting time would be between 6-12 months," she said.

"I emailed back in November 2018 asking what is happening and they said I was not on the waiting list.

"They told me in their words 'there has been a processing error with a large amount of patients who were initially seen in Tetbury'.

"I think it is disgusting and absolutely appalling.

"How did it even happen in the first place?

"I am genuinely concerned that there are people out there that are still unaware that they are missing on the waiting list."

The Tetbury resident has recently had surgery almost 18 months after being put on the waiting list, six months over the target waiting time.

In a joint statement, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust and Tetbury Hospital Trust confirmed that some patients has experienced avoidable delays.

"Ensuring patients are seen in as timely a way as possible is one of our top priorities," a spokesman said.

"It is therefore extremely regretful that a small number of gynaecological patients have experienced avoidable delays in their care while being transferred between Tetbury Hospital and Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust.

"This was due to an administrative error.

"We are carefully reviewing the circumstances which led to this with the aim of strengthening our processes so this doesn’t happen again.

"Patients affected are being personally contacted and arrangements are in place to ensure they receive their onward care in a timely fashion."
