The May Day bank holiday is on the horizon. Here are six ways you could spend it.

Hawkwood’s annual May Day Festival

Gazette Series:

Location: Hawkwood College, Painswick Old Road, Stroud

There will Maypole dancing and children’s activities including including face painting and storytelling.

Tours of the grounds and farmland will be carried out and there will also be live music and a barbecue.

Entry is free but there is a suggested donation of £5.

Wacky Races

Gazette Series:

Location: The Chipping, Tetbury

Hand-built carts will be driven down Tetbury’s steepest hill in the town’s annual Wacky Races event.

Competitors will channel their inner Dastardly and Muttley and race down the hill in The Chipping.

There will be two large screens and PA system to keep spectators up to date with everything that is happening.

Winterbourne Down Carnival

Gazette Series:

Location: Down Road, Winterbourne

This year’s theme is Circus - The Greatest Show on Earth.

The parade will begin at 10.15am on May 6 from the Bradley Avenue shops and will be followed by the carnival along Down Road.

There is also a children’s disco on Saturday and a treasure hunt and scarecrow trail on Sunday.

Fleece Fayre

Gazette Series:

Location: Market Place, Cirencester

The annual event on Monday, May 6 celebrates the history of the wool trade in the town.

Cotswold Sheep Society, Cotswold Alpaca Display and Cirencester Bee Keepers will all be holding displays.

Maypole, morris dancing and Town Crier competition.

10.30am-6pm

Car Boot

Gazette Series:

Location: Victory Park, Ebley

Ebley Youth Football Club and Shortwood United Dev are holding their annual car boot.

Gates open at 7am for sellers and 7.30am for buyers.

Refreshments will be on sale.

Parking is available on site at a cost of £5 for cars and £8 for vans and trailers.

Beer Festival

Gazette Series:

Location: The Prince Albert, Rodborough Hill, Stroud

The pub’s 12th annual beer festival started on Thursday afternoon and is running until Monday night.

There will be real ale, cider and perry as well as a variety of food on offer.

Live music will be performed all weekend.
