A Charfield church has made a sizeable donation to a dementia group

St John’s Church hold Lent Lunches each year and money raised is given to a nominated charity.

The £720.30 raised this year has been given to Dementia Connections Charfield with Rev Rick Williams presenting the cheque on May 1.

Charfield Memory Group is run by Dementia Connections, and provides regular support for people with memory loss and their families.

Group organiser Amanda Pearson said: "We offer a welcoming place to visit, where people can share stories and get stuck into whatever activities we have planned for the day. We try and find something for everyone, so it’s not about one size fits all - more about taking time to get to know the person in order for us to find things that they will enjoy doing.

"It’s all about creating little moments of happiness, and generally feeling good. You might not remember what it was that we did to create those feelings, but those feelings will still remain.

"Our groups rely completely on grant applications, fundraising, and voluntary donations. We were so thrilled when St John’s contacted us to say we had been chosen to benefit from this year’s Lent Lunches.

"When another community organisation recognises the work that you do, it means so much. We really can’t thank them enough.”
