A BURGLAR threw a wrench at a homeowner's windscreen after a disturbed break-in.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which took place near Berkeley on Saturday evening.

A force spokesman said: "We were called to a property in the village of Breadstone at around 11pm after a homeowner had disturbed a vehicle which was being driven in surrounding fields.

"He noticed that his property had been broken into and got into his car and followed the offending vehicle.

"He tailed the car to the Halmore junction when a passenger got out and threw a wrench directly at the windscreen of his vehicle."

The man who threw the wrench was described as being in his late 30s, around 5ft 10 inches tall, of a heavy set and had a beard.

His vehicle is described as a 'small Astra type vehicle or BMW 1 series' which was dark in colour and had a number plate which may have begun with 'WN'.

After throwing the wrench, the man drove off in the direction of the A38.
