The M5 is completely closed Northbound between J18 for Avonmouth and J17 by Cribbs Causeway after a serious multi vehicle collision.
All lanes were blocked after the incident that took place at around 7am.
All emergency services are on the scene with the carriageway expected to be closed for some time.
Highways England have warned motorists to avoid the area and take diversions.

The clean-up operation is now underway and traffic is starting to be released. There are still huge delays.
A post from Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two people had been cut from their cars.
Two casualties were rescued using heavy rescue equipment & are being assessed by @swasFT crews before being conveyed to hospital. One casualty self rescued prior to crews arrival & was also conveyed to hospital. @ASPolice, @SWASFTHART & @HighwaysEngland are also in attendance.
