A SEVEN-YEAR-old girl from Cam is doing her bit to protect the globe from climate change.

Elizabeth Hill went on holiday to Padstow with her family last year and when visiting Trevone Bay she was shocked by the amount of plastic she found across the beach and rocks.

Not willing to just sit by and do-nothing she got involved and helped clear up the area.

“She has become really aware of recycling and the all of those issues,” her mother Samantha Hill said.

“She was inspired by the group Beach Guardian in Padstow and it has just gone on from there.”

“Last year she did a big battery collection at her school and now it is on to the next thing.”

The ‘next thing’ that Samantha was referring to is the collection of ink cartridges from all over the town.

“When she was doing her research she found out that cartridges take over 1000 years to break down if not recycled,” Samantha continued.

“We are massively proud of what she has done, it is amazing.

“She has had a really tough time recently for a number of reasons but we are just immensely proud of her.

“Elizabeth has already collected over 20 cartridges and recycled them with a company called Empties Please to raise money for her school in Slimbridge.

“The school have been really good with her through everything and the community have supported her as well, we are in the process of delivering collection boxes to numerous places so that it is easier for people to drop them off.”

The Barn Owl Gallery in Parsonage Street and Newbrook Farm Equestrian are just two of the locations that have cartridge boxes already, with more to come.
