New dates for council and committee meetings will make it easier for people to attend, says the new Cotswold District Council leader Joe Harris.

Cotswold District Council has published new times and dates for council and committee meetings.

Meetings of the full Council will now be held on Wednesdays and will alternate between a 2pm start time and 6pm.

Cabinet meetings have also been moved to the first Monday of the month starting at 6pm.

The start time of all other committees will remain the same.

Cotswold District Council leader Cllr Joe Harris (Lib Dems) said: “A priority of the new administration at Cotswold District Council is to ensure that our meetings are as open and as accessible to the public as possible.

“As a result we’ve decided to alter the start time of council and cabinet meetings to make them more convenient for councillors and members of the public to attend; these new start times make it easier for those with work or childcare commitments.

“We’ve also committed to webcasting our council meetings so, no matter where you live in the Cotswolds, you will be able to access democracy in action.

"I hope to have this technology in place by the end of the year.”

Nigel Adams, the head of paid service at the council added: “Given the need to prepare for and administer the European elections on May 23, there has been a delay in the induction process for new councillors following the recent district council elections.

"This has led to a review of the meeting schedule for early June and, as a result, the cabinet meeting planned for Monday, June 3 and the overview and scrutiny committee meeting due on Tuesday, June 4 have both been cancelled.

"The rescheduled overview and scrutiny committee meeting will be held in July – we will confirm the specific date as soon as possible.”

The first cabinet meeting of the District Council will be held at 6pm on Monday, July 1.
