A POPULAR fun run event that has raised more than £20,000 over the last 13 years is returning.

The Yate St Mary's 5K Fun Run started in 2006 and takes place annually to raise money for the St Mary's Friends.

This time around it will be taking place at 11am on Saturday, June 8 with places still available to book.

So far this year, the St Mary's Friends have raised over £11,500 with numerous events. These include quizzes, discos, Christmas Fayre's and the popular Yate Scarecrow Trail late last year.

The group have already beaten their record for a year however they still have a number of big events to come in 2019, with the Tuckfield Football Tournament and Disco being planned.

There will be a whole host of things to do at event on June 8, with a bouncy castle, games and a lot of other stalls making it an event for all the family.

Yate's Unicorn World Record Holder Andy Taylor will also be leading a warm-up at the event for the runners.

Chairperson of the Friends group, Sarah Griffiths said: "The St Mary's 5K Run is a long-running, community event that has been a huge success over the years, raising a substantial amount of funds for the school, but more importantly its a really fun event for the whole family.
