SCHOOL friends Lily Watts and Imi Workman are having their haircut in aid of two charities.

The nine-year-olds from Wotton under Edge are raising money for Gloucestershire Hospital’s neonatal unit, called Skoo B Doo.

And they are also donating their hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that gives free real-hair wigs to children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other illnesses.

The girls, who are pupils at the British School in Wotton, both have very personal reasons for wanting to help Skoo B Doo.

"My biggest brother and his partner have just had twin girls, they were born 12 weeks early and have been very poorly," said Lily.

"I want to raise money for the hospital that is helping them get better and is looking after them every day."

She added: "My friend Imi is also raising money for the same cause as she is a twin and was born premature, so needed that extra help from neonatal care."

Lily's mum Angela said: "It'll be a little while before the new twins come home.

"You have to be 16 to visit the neo-natal unit, so Lily hasn't been able to see her nieces yet.

"That made her quite sad, and so she decided she wanted to do something to help them.

"Lily's never had more than an inch cut off her hair since she was born, and it's nearly down to her bottom now.

"But she knows it's only hair and that it will grow back.

"Our initial target of £1,000 was reached in four days, and we're now hoping to reach £2,000."

The girls are having their haircut at the Beauty Barn in Charfield this afternoon.
