A police warning has been issued after a number of catalytic converters were stolen in Gloucestershire.

Fourteen have been stolen from the county since May 8.

Catalytic converters contain valuable metals which can fetch several hundred pounds in scrap.

Drivers are being urged to safeguard their vehicles wherever possible.

Commonly converters are stolen from vehicles parked on the road and offenders will pull up alongside their targeted vehicle before exiting and cutting off the converter with a saw or angle grinder.

How will you know if a theft has occurred? You will notice a loud rumbling sound as soon as the engine is turned on which will get louder as you put your foot on the accelerator.

Gloucestershire Police are asking residents to be aware of the security of their vehicles and to report any suspicious activity immediately, taking note of descriptions and vehicle registration numbers where possible.
