TOM Hayward produced a match-winning burst of 6-30 for Division One pacesetters Apperley away to Chipping Sodbury in the Greene King IPA Gloucestershire County League.

Sodbury, pursuing 230, were in a decent position to challenge at 133-2 but faded away as Hayward made inroads, supported by Dave Means (2-31 from nine).

Earlier, Means top scored on 47 for Apperley who are bidding to return to WEPL after dropping down in 2017.

Second-placed Lydney dispatched Poulton by nine wickets, Jordan Stone (4-19) paving the way for openers Mike Toolis (67) and Tom Legge (56 not) to chase down the required 143.

Opener Vishal Mamgai (97) top scored for newcomers Thornbury 2nds who edged Charlton Kings by five runs, Alex Riggs claiming 4-41. And Gavin White’s 125 (12 fours, eight sixes) paved the way for Kingsholm to defeat Cheltenham 2nds by 118 runs.

Gloucester AIW Sports are still looking for their first win after succumbing by ten wickets at Redmarley, James Holland, Sam Aston and Sam Mattingley all taking three wickets.

Only one result was possible in Division Two because of the weather, high-flying Aston Ingham trumping Oldlands by 42 runs, opener Jon Waspe top scoring on 78.

In Division Three, Langford inflicted a first defeat on Hawkesbury Upton. Jeremy Kirby (48) and Harry Stevens (47) helped Langford total 245-7 ahead of Hawkesbury folding from 127-1 to 168 all out, prolific openers Jay Westwood (57) and George Bailey (40) supplying the bulk of the runs.

Cranham held their nerve for a two-run victory away to Rockhampton 2nds while Jason Huxstep (5-17) starred in Frampton-on-Severn’s 99-run home triumph over Chipping Sodbury 2nds and Aaron Tuck (5-24 from nine) repeated the trick for Frocester 3rds who trumped Great Rissington by 17 runs.

Newent are six from six at the top of Division Four after Paddy Thompson (4-4) and Karl Mortimer (4-14) set up an eight-wicket home win over Cheltenham Civil Service 2nds.

Bourton Vale 2nds also stretched their 100 per cent record with a 64-run success away to their Lydney counterparts, opener Andy Phillips hammering 107.

It was tighter at Dumbleton 2nds where Fairford completed an eight-run win, Lee Clark unbeaten on 84 while in the final game in this division, Birdlip & Brimpsfield overcame Stone by 114 runs.

Cheltenham 3rds, the Division Five pacesetters, overwhelmed Cirencester 2nds by nine wickets, Martin Collier unbeaten on 66.

And Gloucester 2nds kept the pressure on with a 58-run home triumph over Sheepscombe, captain Shane Trigg hitting 65.

Corse & Staunton 2nds tied at home to Minchinhampton, both sides finishing this weather-affected 40-over clash on 223.

Division Six leaders Cricklade powered past previously unbeaten Kingsholm 2nds by eight wickets, Mike Mabbatt and Adam Robbins both claiming four scalps. And Churchdown lost ground on the top two following a nine-wicket thumping at home to Hardwicke.

Jack Weaving was unbeaten on 87 in Division Seven high-flyers Ruardean Hill’s eight-wicket home victory over Charfield, and Henry Morgan had fine figures of 4-19 from nine for Bourton Vale 3rds who defeated Painswick 2nds by six wickets.
